A Reminder.....

Happy Black Friday! Did you get up early and go shopping? Not this girl! While I love shopping as much as the next girl, I love my bed a little bit more at 4:00 am! :o) Can I get an amen out there?

Thanksgiving has come and gone and I wanted to share one last post on this year's festivities. It's more for myself but just in case you've wanted a glimpse into my private life, I thought I'd post it here.

Yesterday, Emma (my niece) and I were alone in the kitchen. I was moving around cooking and things were pretty quiet as everyone else was out in the garage. I'm not sure how the conversation actually started, but I made some random comment about my kitchen. I want to say it was something along the lines of wishing it was more modern but that Uncle Chris and I didn't have the money to make any changes to it right now. Emma looked me right in the eye and said, "A lot of people I know don't have all of this fancy stuff." Suddenly I could see things just a little clearer.....my grandmother's china was on the table, a pot of freshly ground coffee was just finishing and the people that I love were gathered together out in the garage. I was so busy trying to get our dinner done in my 1957 kitchen that I lost sight of all that I am blessed with and it took a 10 year old's observations to bring my focus back into perspective. I immediately stopped what I was doing and looked at her and said, "You are absolutely right. And I'm thankful for what I've been given." And I truly am.

So thank you Emma for helping Aunt Melissa see things as they really are. You bring a joy to my life like no one else and it is my deepest hope that you never lose the ability to see things like you did yesterday!

Have a good weekend!

Changes......

Good morning everyone!

We've officially entered our job loss phase and having Chris home during the day has thrown my routines all off.....I apologize for the unexpected blog break!

I'm not quite sure how much to share here but think it's important to be honest....and since it's my blog, I guess I can do that! I promise that my posts won't be all doom and gloom as I believe that we will be well taken care of and God will be glorified through it. One of the blogs I follow has recently gone through something similar and she referred to it as their "God Watch" time. I love the thought of that and plan to call mine the same thing. As I've said many times before, our attitudes determine our perspective on a lot of things and this is one of those time when I must live out what I say I believe. I hope you'll join me as I update you on all the things that we learn and to see just how well God provides!

In other news, we decided to go ahead and purchase the dishwasher and fit it in. It's been in for a couple of weeks now and I LOVE it!! Here's what it looks like....

Chris also cut down the drawers that were in the spot we installed the dishwasher and fit them behind another existing door. While it's not a perfect arrangement, it's a whole lot better than having the drawers sit on the living room floor which is where they were for a week! :-)

I'll be back tomorrow to share some cards I made last week. Have a fantastic Thursday!

Many Blessings,
M.

Attitude and Perspective Matter......

Photo from Joys of Home

I'll be honest here....I'm not naturally a glass half full kind of gal. But the beauty of being saved by grace is that I don't have to be perfect! And that when I'm weak, my God is strong.

We live in a world full of death, injustice, abuse and neglect but if we really open our eyes and look for it, beauty can be found all around.

As homemakers, we set the tone in our homes. I believe that no matter what your circumstances may be, you can create an atmosphere of calmness and comfort by taking a little time to make your house a home. Light a candle, put on some soft music, spray on some sweet smelling perfume, greet your mate (or pets!) with a smile and thank God for all you have been blessed with!

At the end of the day, attitude and perspective matter.

Have a good day!
M.

PS - Thank you for your permission Joy!
